Cabrillo output is supported in CT 9.49 and later. Both the ARRL and CQ require logs to be sent in Cabrillo format. Uses can download the latest version of CT by following the "Download CT" link at the top or left of this page.

When the contest is over, type the text command WRITELOG into the callsign field in CT's logging window (users of CT 9.91 or later can simply type the text command WRITECAB). A number of output files will be produced. The Cabrillo log is called <CALL>.LOG where "CALL" is the callsign you used in the contest (in version 9.68 and earlier, this file was called <CALL>.TXT). If you are using version 9.53 or earlier, see the note at the bottom of this page.

CT can produce a Cabrillo log for the following contests:

  • ARRL 10 Meter
  • ARRL 160 Meter (9.54 and later)
  • ARRL International DX (both domestic and DX)
  • ARRL Sweepstakes
  • ARRL VHF QSO Party
  • ARRL VHF Sweepstakes
  • CQ 160 Meter
  • CQ World Wide
  • CQ WPX
  • Florida QSO Party
  • IARU HF Radio Championship
  • New England QSO Party
  • PACC
  • WAE DX Contest (both Europe and outside)
  • World Radio Team Championship

Review the Cabrillo log before sending it to the contest sponsor. Make sure that the header information is correct for the contest and category you operated. Send the log as an attachment, not in the body of the E-mail message. Check with the sponsor for other requirements.

You can read more about Cabrillo in November 2000 QST.

Bruce Lifter, WT4I maintains a set of contest, tools, including a Cabrillo Converter.

NOTE: Due to a bug in 9.53 (and most likely previous versions), if the callsign you used for the contest (i.e. the one you entered into CT's setup screen) contains a portable designation (i.e. K1EP/VP9), then the Cabrillo log file will be written to a subdirectory whose name matches the first part of the portable, and the file name will match the second part. I.e. for the example above, CT would write a Cabrillo log called VP9.TXT into the K1EP directory. If that directory does not exist, no log will be written.
